Born on the slow streets of San Francisco
Slow Street Coffee started as a simple hobby in 2019—inside a small San Francisco studio apartment, with a stovetop roaster and a lot of curiosity.
What began as experimentation quickly turned into obsession. During the pandemic, founder Zaid Zayouna leaned deeper into roasting, sharing batches with friends and family and refining his craft one roast at a time. The feedback was immediate—and overwhelmingly positive.
At the time, the project was called Milkman Coffee—an idea rooted in simplicity and connection. Zaid would personally deliver coffee and scoop fresh beans directly into customers’ canisters, bringing a modern twist to an old-school ritual.
The turning point came while mapping out delivery routes across San Francisco.
Inspired by the city’s “slow streets”—designed for community, connection, and a more intentional pace of life—the name Slow Street Coffee clicked. It wasn’t just a name; it captured the entire philosophy behind the business, coffee, connection, community!

We’re constantly experimenting, dialing things in, and rotating in new coffees—so there’s always something fresh to try. Building Community
Slow Street Coffee exists to bring people together. Across San Francisco, we partner with neighborhood organizers and initiatives like Community Streets to support local block parties, pop-up gatherings, and community events.
These are spaces where neighbors meet, kids play, artists share their work, and streets become places of connection — not just traffic.
We show up with coffee, donate our time, and help create moments that bring people closer together. Because for us, coffee is just the starting point — community is the goal.
